Mohun Bagan loses 1-2 vs Bashundhara Kings in the AFC Cup 2023-24

The Indian football team won the Group “D” encounter in Dhaka thanks to a goal from Liston Colaco, although Mohun Bagan will take on Odisha FC next.

  • In Group D of the AFC Cup 2023-24, Mohun Bagan Super Giant, an Indian football team, fell 1-2 against Bangladesh’s Bashundhara Kings on Tuesday at the Bashundhara Kings Arena in Dhaka.
  • Liston Colaco (17′) gave Mohun Bagan the lead in the football match, but Miguel Figueira (44′) and Robinho (80′) gave the home team two goals.
  • Both Mohun Bagan SG and Bashundhara Kings have seven points from four games despite the loss. But according to head-to-head, the Bangladeshi team is ahead in the Group D table. In the rematch last month, the two clubs drew 2-2.
  • Both teams threw themselves into winning the ball first, setting the tone for an intense opening quarter of the contest. Of the two teams, the Indian Super League team appeared to have a better chance of scoring. While Liston Colaco, Hugo Boumous, and Samad Abdul Samad missed good opportunities for the Mariners, Manveer Singh struck the sidenetting.
  • Liston Colaco finally broke the impasse. Goalie Hasan Srabon of Bashundhara palmed away a cross from left by Jason Cummings, but Liston collected the rebound and finished it neatly to give Mohun Bagan the victory.
  • Soon after, Miguel Figueira found himself one-on-one with Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Vishal Kaith, but he skied his effort, giving the home team a chance to tie the score. After the half-hour, Bashundhara continued to gain momentum in the game, with Robinho in particular seeming dangerous on the left flank.
  • Just before halftime, Miguel Figueira made up for his earlier miss by burying a left-footed shot from outside the box into the top left corner, giving the home team a point after several wasted chances. The assistance came from Didier Brossou.
  • Both teams traded chances as the action alternated ends frequently in the second half, with everything on the line. At the half, Robinho’s long-range shot rattled the right post, denying the home team the opportunity to take the lead.
  • Vishal Kaith made an incredible save to deny Rakib Hossain after he dribbled into the box shortly after the 60-minute mark. Ten minutes later, Cummings of Mohun Bagan had the ball in the net for Bashundhara, but it was disallowed for offside.
  • Robinho, who played a fantastic game, gave the home team its breakthrough. Inside the Mohun Bagan box, the Brazilian found himself in a strange place. He touched something and sent Kaith in the incorrect direction. The strike was ultimately victorious.
  • The penultimate AFC Cup 2023–24 Group D encounter between Mohun Bagan Super Giant and Odisha FC, another Indian side, will take place on November 27 at Kolkata’s Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan.
